How Sugar in Your Diet Can Age You

thumb-skinI know what you are thinking….Preaching again Dr. Gail …..I hear you all…lol

I know you all know that eating too much sugar can make your middle grow….can add weight to your frame and can be associated with heart disease. But do you know that excess sugar in the blood or spikes of sugar can age you? Skin, organs, muscles and your brain are severely affected by glycation. Glycation is the damage or reaction of your proteins in the presence of sugar in the blood. This burst of sugar cause a burst of insulin and inflammation flows throughout your body.

Unfortunately there is more bad news to those of us who are vain….skin needs its protein to look smooth and healthy. If the sugar attaches to our collagen (glycation) the inflammation affects the cross linking and makes the collagen inflexible and stiff and we look dry brittle and older.

Not ready to give up your pasta or whole grain bread, or even your fruit salad? What can help protect our skin?

Nutrients that have been shown in the studies to decrease the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream or support the skin:

Irvingia Gabonesis

Studies have shown that Irvingia has had multimodal effects on glucose control.

White Kidney Bean or Phaseolus Vulgaris

Phaseolus Vulgaris been shown to be a powerful blocker of alpha-amylase. Alpha-amylase from the pancreas breaks down the complex sugars so we can digest them easier. (We want to slow this process down to avoid that harmful glycation.)

Plant Ceramides

Phytoceramides directly support and moisturize the Stratum Corneum in aging skin from the inside.

Hydrolyzed Collagen

Hydrolyzed collagen helps maintain our aging body with the raw material to supplement the collagen so it supports the structure of the connective tissue in the skin and the cushion around our bones and joints

Matrixyl stimulates the matrix layers in the skin — primarily collagen and fibronectin providing external support.

Edelweiss Stem Cells

Edelweiss Stem Cells to inhibit the enzymes that break down collagen and hyaluronic acid strengthening the structure of the skin.

Introducing the Beyond Biology System for Healthy Skin!

The Beyond Biology Micronized Collagen Serum is a collagen cell activator that renews the skin and supports the skin cell cycle. When used together with our Beyond Biology Collagen Booster Nano K Peptide Cream the pair is a hard bargain to compete with in today’s skin care market.

As we grow older and our skin cells have shorter life spans, the process of generating brand new skin cells decelerates as our cells cease to replicate. Skin starts to become thinner and cuts and abrasions may start to take longer to heal. Even bruises can become more prominent as the skin loses its elasticity during aging. Wrinkles then start to appear and may become deeper and deeper as time goes on. The process of aging is inevitable, but there is hope and we can do something to help alleviate or delay it for as long as possible.

Many of you already using the Micronized Collagen Skin Serum know that it contains high concentrations of active ingredients like Matrixyl® to support collagen synthesis and hyaluronic acid synthesis.

This silky liquid is easily absorbed into the skin allowing for immediate delivery of the active ingredients deep below the epidermis surface. Serums however, are not intended to provide enough hydration when it is used alone.

This is why the Doctors from Beyond Biology have been recommending the one-two punch approach from both the Micronized Collagen Skin Serum and the Rejuvenating Collagen Booster Nano K Peptide Cream as an essential part of your daily skin care regimen. The results in our Beyond Biology users of this DYNAMIC DUO have been phenomenal. The concentrated restorative effects of the serum coupled with the moisturizing and rejuvenating properties of the peptides have been key to reducing wrinkles and having healthier, younger, and brilliant looking skin.

Why Peptides?

Applying the Nano k Peptides directly to the skin is a way to trick your skin into thinking it has lost collagen and needs to create more of its own. These mini proteins are highly active molecules so you pay a high price to have them in your average wrinkle prevention products. But the question is do they actually work?

Peptides are defined as chains of amino acids, which we know are the building blocks of protein, which are essential to life. They act as messengers in the skin allowing the skin layers of epidermis and dermis to communicate more efficiently. These specific signals affect the skin’s response; the peptides can actually program the cells and tell them what to do! Our skin will not function without them!

Make this amazing DYNAMIC DUO even better by adding a third punch of Internal Skin Care, Beyond Biology Phytoceramides!

Phosphatidylcholine why is it important?

Do you want to look young and beautiful longer? Or is it more important to you to reduce your cholesterol level and risk of heart disease? Do you have issues with PMS or problems with your memory? Or maybe you’re just worried about supporting your liver’s health.  Phosphatidylcholine according to the studies is just one nutritional supplement that can do all of these things and more? Believe it or not, Phosphatidylcholine is a natural substance that we already obtain through healthy foods; it can also be taken as a nutritional supplement to promote health and healing throughout the entire body.

What is Phosphatidylcholine (PC)?

It’s a naturally occurring chemical that is a member of the phospholipid or fatty acid class of compounds which are needed throughout the human body and is actually one of the most critical substances, because it is the main supplier of choline.

Phosphatidylcholine and its successor, choline, are used in several very important ways:
• Acts as a transporter for proper metabolism of fats

• Synthesize acetylcholine for use in the brain and nerves
• Build cell membranes
• Reduce cholesterol’s ability to form deposits

How Can Phosphatidylcholine Help Me?

Taken as a nutritional supplement, this amazing substance can help you maintain, support or regain benefits in difference aspects of your health. Keep in mind that research studies are currently being done to quantify the effectiveness of this supplement for even more exciting uses; some of these effects have been conclusively proven, while for others, the research is just starting to come in.

Healthier Aging

As we grow age the amount of PC contained in our cells decreases. By taking a daily supplement we can boost the cellular levels and slow down or even reverse this decline. Supplementation can help support learning and memory, support healthy skin elasticity, and promote optimal liver function.

Support Healthy Heart and Help Maintain Healthy Cholesterol Levels
PC helps cholesterol to dissolve more easily so it is harder for cholesterol to build up in arteries and may reduce the risk of atherosclerosis. Studies have shown PC also helps to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels and remove cholesterol from tissues throughout the body.

May Help to Relieve PMS Symptoms
Studies indicate that PC and other similar substances are effective in treating symptoms of PMS and painful menses.

Improve Memory
Taking PC can promote generation of more acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter which is essential for memory retention in the brain. The more acetylcholine that you have available the more efficient your memory should be. Phosphatidylcholine has been studied to support neurological conditions such as MS and Alzheimer’s disease.

Supports and May Prevent Liver Damage Disorders
Many studies have shown that PC effectively helps to reduce liver fibrosis, prevent cell death from drugs and alcohol. It has also been shown by the studies to protect cells from damage caused by viruses. Supplementation is widely used in Europe to support disorders such as Alcoholic cirrhosis, fatty liver, hepatitis, and toxic liver damage that comes from drugs.

People ask us at Beyond Biology all the time what to look for when shopping for PC. You want to avoid Phosphatidylcholine from soy if possible. Usage for the average person is 500mg 2-3 times a day. Please write or call us if you need help with special situation we would be glad to help with usage. 888-908-0804

Are You a Food Addict?

This question comes up often in our practice. People think they may be food addicts. These questions will help you figure it out. If you answer yes to 2 or more questions… it’s a possibility.

  1. Do you think about food more than 1 hour a day?
  2. Do you eat to the point of being physically sick?
  3. Does your relationship with food affect your personal relationships?(do you avoid company or social events because you lack self-control to eat the right foods)
  4. Do you turn to food during stressful situations?
  5. Do you experience withdrawal from food?

We would like to believe that we can all be balanced and controlled but is the sugar/processed/fat and salt laden food a real addiction……a biological addition? Think about it…. do we binge on celery? Do we go overboard eating broccoli or chicken, not likely but cookies or potato chips….easy right?

I would like to say self-control is all you need… personal power, it helps, but is that enough? Obesity and the related diseases are an epidemic. Does “just the say no attitude” always work? It is harder for the food addicts compared to other addicts because they have to deal with their demon every day. The “just say no” approach to drug addiction hasn’t fared very well. We don’t think it works for our industrial food addiction either. It is hard for a cocaine or heroin addict or an alcoholic to “just say no” after that first snort, shot, or drink. I do not think that it is that simple. There are many specific biological mechanisms that push people towards addictive behavior.

Nobody chooses to be a drug addict, or alcoholic. Nobody chooses to be fat either. The bad behaviors arise out of primitive neurochemical pathways in the brain that override basic willpower and overwhelm our natural biological signals that control hunger.

For Example:

  • Why smoke when we know smoking will give you cancer and heart disease?
  • Why do less than 20 percent of alcoholics succeed in quitting drinking?
  • Why do most drug addicts continue to use drugs despite their lives being ruined?
  • Why do we get headaches when we quit coffee and become irritable?

It is because these substances are all biologically addictive.

We don’t want to be overweight and unhealthy! ….but it may be because certain types of food are addictive. Hate to be one of those conspiracy people but when sugary salty foods are combined in secret ways the food industry will not share or make public we are biologically wired to crave these foods and eat as much of them as possible.

We all understand about cravings, but what does science tell us about food and addiction and what are the legal and policy implications. Can we do anything if certain foods are, in fact, addictive?

Those of you who know me see me as a person who has extreme self-control…..but would I be the same person if I did not avoid the foods that I know are triggers?…..what if I did not know?……what if I was the average lay person?….

I always think of the movie Super Size Me. This should be required viewing for every overweight person, or food addict. Morgan Spurlock ate three super-sized meals from McDonald’s every day he gained 30 pounds, his cholesterol, he got a fatty liver but what was most amazing was the addictive quality of the food he ate. When he ate his first super-sized meal, he threw it up, just like someone who drinks too much alcohol. By the end of the movie, he only felt “well” when he was eating the junk food. The rest of the time he felt sick, depressed, anxious, exhausted and irritable without sex drive, just like a smoker or addict withdrawing from a drug. The food was clearly addictive. My early childhood to my twenties I was a food addict for sure, took me many years to realizes this though.

The good news it is never too late to win this battle. Most people can turn it around in 3-4 weeks and the craving disappears. Dabbling in these foods is never a good idea though the cravings start again. Begin your new life today!

Products that may help you get started:

Saffron 88.25mg 2 times a day

5 HTP before bedtime 100-200mg

Mangodrene 500mg 1-2 per day.

Weight Loss Benefits 7 Keto DHEA

box-hcg-stomach.png7 Keto DHEA has been getting a lot of popularity lately, mainly because the experts have claimed its many weight loss benefits. It is basically a metabolite of the adrenal hormone dehydroepiandrosterone also known as its acronym DHEA. This 3-acetyl-7-oxo-dehydroepiandrosterone, or 7 Keto DHEA is a naturally occurring byproduct of your human DHEA which is produced from your skin, adrenal glands, and brain. As you age your 7 Keto DHEA levels naturally decrease starting in your 30’s and declining to about 50% when you hit 50 years old. There are around 150 DHEA metabolites, but the 7 Keto seems to be the most valuable of them all. 7 Keto DHEA can easily enhance your immune functions, decrease muscle loss, boost memory, lessen the effects of stress or cortisol, enhance your metabolic rate, and at the same time accelerate healthy weight loss. 7 Keto DHEA is well tolerated by most people and can give you these benefits without any stimulants which can raise blood pressure or heart rate or both.

Another important benefit of 7 Keto  is that it cannot convert to the sex hormones like testosterone or estrogen so it may be safer that DHEA for those who are not able to take hormones.

Weight Loss Benefits 7 Keto DHEA

7 Keto has been clinically proven to increase the metabolism while contribute a healthier weight loss. One of the main reasons 7 Keto is able to contribute weight loss would have to be its capability to increase the natural activity of your thermogenic enzymes that are responsible for the body’s fatty acid oxidation so you burn the fatty acids in the liver for fuel. This also benefits health by decreasing levels of triglycerides in the liver.  Studies have also stated that 7 Keto supplementation had a dramatic effect on these thermogenic enzymes by  increasing acyl CoA oxidase by over 128%, malic enzymes by 860%, and glycerol-3 phosphate dehydrogenase by 138%. Studies have also shown that taking 7 Keto can increase thyroid hormone activity that targets fat burning genes in the mitochondria and the adipose (fat cells). Studies have also said that this component is more effective than many other weight loss aids out there. 7 Keto has also been shown in the studies to significantly increase the amount of T3 (thyroid hormone) in test subjects. The last benefit that it offers is prevent fat storage in the body to promote a much healthier and quicker weight loss process. The main cause of weight gain is the fact that the body stores fat from consuming more carbohydrates than necessary.

Losing weight with 7 Keto DHEA will honestly make the entire process of dieting a lot less stressful and a lot more efficient for all sorts of body types while enjoying all the other health benefits of 7 Keto DHEA in your body.
